How do we remember our dead? John-Luke Roberts is going to do it by dressing up like them and putting them on stage.
This is a follow-up of sorts to 2015’s Stdad-Up, where Roberts grieved in public by performing his recently dead father as a grotesque insult comic. But while that show was born out of anger, this one aims to be a more tender tribute and an attempt to examine how memory keeps people alive, and the ways in which it changes them. Sometimes comic, sometimes something else.
The Dead Show is the start of a lifetime performance project for Roberts – every few years returning to the show to see how it changes as his memory does, and as other loved ones join the line up.
